ABOUT FSC
With over 30 years in international forestry, FSC has grown into the most trusted forest certification organization in the world.
50,000+
organizations worldwide hold the FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification, promising end-to-end supply chain integrity.
Each system-wide decision to improve the livelihood of these ecosystems is democratically led by economic, social, and environmental experts.
As FSC’s platform continues to expand, top brands and global NGOs look to support the movement in restoring forests and establishing more sustainable sourcing protocols.
These efforts are just as significant in the fashion industry where FSC has been working to develop certified textile supply chains since 2015.
80%
of consumers, who recognize FSC, are more likely to trust an brand offering FSC certified products.
Both brands and manufacturers can take part in the transition by displaying the FSC label, recognizable by 46% of consumers worldwide . Involvement not only ensures that sustainable sourcing practices are followed, but that forests are being protected for all, forever.
Why does FSC work on fashion?
Forest-based textiles, such as viscose, modal and lyocell, are gaining ground as part of the fashion and textile industry’s sustainability initiatives. Similarly, natural rubber and cork are used in a wide variety of products from trainers and boots to accessories and bags.
FSC is on a multi-year roadmap to support the use of these materials and ensure they are being responsibly sourced within the global fashion and textile industry.
Support for every link of the supply chain
Knowledge and partnerships
FSC builds partnerships with businesses and organizations who want a more sustainable fashion industry. We work on a one-to-one basis with businesses to support their efforts in getting more FSC-certified products to the market.
Clear requirements
The easy part is committing to certification goals. The real work comes next. What does certifying your supply chain require from whom, when and why? And how do you get started?
We offer free support with 20 FSC local offices involved in the project.
Data and blockchain
The fashion supply chain is becoming one of the most digitalized supply chains in the world. We will test if FSC blockchain can pass on essential data about social conditions, chemicals, country of origin of the fibre etc. without additional work for the businesses and without exposing the entire value chain or other business-sensitive information.
Getting footprint indications of each design
We want to make it easier for companies in the design process to make informed choices about which fibres to use in their designs. In collaboration with Made2Flow, we will pilot a digital tool, which allows brands to compare the carbon and biodiversity impact of the choices made in a given design.
