We all want fashion that is better for people and
the planet. By joining the Pact, you can support both.

Consumers are becoming more concerned about the environmental and social impact of their purchases. They are seeking out brands that provide assurance their goods are produced responsibly and sustainably.

The Fashion Forever Green Pact helps brands do just that.

The strongest standard

FSC is widely recognized as the most trusted stakeholder-supported choice for third-party certification of forest-based fibres. Its certification standards are designed to ensure that forests are managed in a way that preserves their ecological, social, and economic values.

These standards safeguard social value in supply chains by ensuring workers’ rights, human rights, safety measures, and by supporting local communities. It is also the only certification scheme rigorously protecting old growth forests and Indigenous Peoples’ rights across the globe.

Transparent
and accountable

By using FSC-certified textiles, cork, or rubber, fashion companies demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and social responsibility while building trust and loyalty among eco-conscious consumers.

Third-party certification and verification provide a high level of transparency and accountability that helps ensure materials are, in fact, being sourced from responsibly managed forests.

84% of consumers worldwide expect businesses
not to contribute to deforestation.

According to an independent survey conducted by GlobeScan on behalf of FSC, 84% of consumers worldwide expect businesses not to contribute to deforestation.*

This contrasts with a report published by Global Fashion Agenda and the Boston Consulting Group which concluded that the fashion industry was projected to use 35% more land for fibre production by 2030— an additional 115 million hectares that could be left for biodiversity or used to grow crops to feed an expanding population.

The connection of fashion to forests matters!

Safeguarding forests is critical for the health of the planet and its inhabitants. According to the WWF, the World Wildlife Fund, forests cover about 30% of the world’s land surface and are home to 80% of the terrestrial biodiversity of the planet. They provide vital ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, water regulation, and soil conservation. Forests also play a vital role in supporting the livelihoods of millions of people around the world, particularly in developing countries.

Or put in simpler terms: Forests are home to more than 3/4 of the world's life on land!

It is difficult to determine the exact proportion of forest-based fibres that are sourced responsibly in the fashion industry.

Man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCFs) are a sustainable textile alternative to fossil-fuel based fibres like polyester and nylon. They are also the fastest growing share of global fibre production. Less than 60% come from independently verified certified sources, according to the Textile Exchange.

The only way to shift the fashion industry to an ethical, regenerative, and transparent low-carbon future, is to ensure the forest-based fibres being used are sourced responsibly from sustainably managed forests. The ultimate goal is to couple this, with the circular use of fibres to create a truly responsibly and lasting transition.

Forest-based fibers are on the rise.

That is good news, but…

Commit to a future where fashion is forever green–for forests, for all.
